The Players
Jenn Forsland
Jenn is active in musical theatre, private vocal teaching, school teaching (elementary music), and sings with the Georgia Strait Big Band and the fabulous ladies of Swing Set. Jenn has a gorgeous voice and an entertaining, captivating presence on stage.
Ralph Barrat
Perfoming solo or playing in RNR, the Merville Brothers, Jazztet, the Ralph Barrat Group and the Jenn Forsland Group, Ralph is a busy guy. His keyboard playing ranges for rock to funk to jazz, and his vocal style is rightly compared to the great Frank Sinatra. You can hear him and find out more at his web site.
Al West
Al and his bass appear everywhere in the Valley. Besides the Jenn Forsland Group, Al plays with Indigo Jazz, Fiddlejam, Cure All Dance Band (on banjo and tenor guitar), the Zocalocos, Velvet Swing and the Strathcona Symphony Orchestra. From early years touring Europe in a rock band to the cool jazz of the Forsland Group, Al has covered it all.
Rob Peterson
Besides providing great drumming, Rob was key in getting the Jenn Forsland Group off the ground. The vibrant jazz scene in the Comox Valley exists in large part due to his great enthusiasm and organizational skills. He also drums with, and is manager of, the Georgia Strait Big Band. In the continuous search for the next level of drumming, Rob studies under the direction of Tom Joseph from Qualicum. He lists amongst his influencs - and favourite contemporary drummers - Peter Irskine, Clayton Cameron, Dave Weckl and Jo Jo Mayer.
Tony Morrison
Tony's sax and flute playing are in demand throughout the area. He's performed with the Georgia Strait Big Band, Time Well Wasted, 6th Street, Jazz Noir and Fractal. Combining a great sound with marvelous jazz chops, he sets the standard for playing in the Forsland Group.
Rick Husband
After country (the Waylon and Willie era), dixieland (playing bass) and big band swing, Rick and his guitar have found their niche in the Comox Valley jazz scene. Along with the great experience of backing vocalists like Jenn and Ralph, he enjoys sitting in with straight ahead jazz groups like Jazztet and accompanying Dale Graham and Joanna Finch. He's also a member of Indigo Jazz and the Zocalocos, and appears with the Georgia Strait and Little Big Bands, 6th Street and Jazz Noir.
